With so many AI tools cropping up at once, how can the third sector keep up?
Darryl Corner is the Video and Audio Lead at Third Sector Lab, and he’s pulled together a list of AI tools which can make video content easier than ever!
So, what can AI really do?
-
Transcribe your video content.
Whether you need to create subtitles, or just need a written record of a long speech you filmed, accurate transcription is always good to have.
At Third Sector Lab, we use Descript. Tools like this have auto transcribers that do a very good job of turning your speech into text and can even recognise multiple voices in a group discussion.
2. Edit your video easily
Want to edit video the way you edit a Word document? The next step after transcription is text-based editing. Literally cut and paste the words, and the video clips cut and rearrange themselves.
Adobe Premiere has had this functionality for a while, but stand-alone apps like Pictory are getting there quickly as well.
The tools we recommend:
3. Clean Up Your Audio
Maybe you’ve recorded an interview in an echoey room. Or maybe there’s some unwanted background noise that’s leaving your audio less than professional.
Whatever has gone wrong, all is not lost! The tool we recommend is Adobe podcast vocal enhancer. It does a great job cleaning up audio files.
4.Write Your Script
Need to write a script but not sure where to start? If you haven’t yet, now’s the time to try ChatGPT . The grand-daddy of AI is great for getting past that scary, blank, white page moment.
On its own, it’s not a solution for hard-hitting scripts because it tends to lack emotional punch. However, it will help you marshall your thoughts and get you moving in the right direction.
5. Reading Your Script
Now that you have your script, you need a voice over artist. AI voice over generators – sometimes called text to speech – allow you to paste the text of your script and then choose from a range of voices.
Tools:
Predictably, they’re heavily biased towards American accents but Vyond has some regional accents including Scottish and Welsh that are almost passable.
6. Presenting Your Script
Can’t convince someone in the office to go in front of a camera or you just prefer to remain anonymous? There may be an AI solution.
It’s possible to create avatars that basically speak the text you input with Synthesia. This is a great option if you want a human(ish) face to front your video.
In the third sector, we often work with vulnerable groups, so it’s especially useful if you have any case studies that you’d like to keep anonymous.
7. Can I make a whole video from a text prompt?
Well, not quite. But there are various tools that are moving in that direction, like Sora from OPEN AI. The results can look a bit like video game footage, but it could get you out of a hole.
Whilst it may prove to be a good alternative to stock footage libraries, it can’t turn up at your office or event and interview your clients or staff.
So what now?
